Usain Bolt dumps girlfriend to focus on Summer Olympics

Usain Bolt ended his six-month relationship with a Slovakian fashion designer in order to focus on the upcoming Summer Olympics.

News reports suggest Bolt’s breakup with Lubica Slovak, 28, was because of his desire to repeat his double-gold/world-record Olympic performance in London. The Jamaican swept the sprint events in 2008 and set the world marks in each race.

A source close to Bolt told The Sun, “He will have plenty of time for relationships. At the moment he’s concentrating on his running career and doesn’t want anything to distract from that.”Usain Bolt Dumps Girlfriend

Slovak emigrated to Canada as a teenager and later moved to Jamaica after she took a vacation there. She was introduced to Bolt by reggae singer Tami Chynn, a mutual friend.

The sprinting star was criticized in his native Jamaica when a picture of him kissing Slovak, who is white, appeared in a local newspaper. A cartoon accompanied the photo, in which Bolt was seen running past a black woman with “local” written on her shirt and into the arms of a “Slovakian fashion designer.”

The island’s second-largest newspaper published letters to the editor criticizing Bolt’s choice in women. Countless Internet comments angrily reacted to the Bolt-Slovak relationship.

Phelps – Greatest Athlete Ever?

15 08 2008

by Michael DeLuca

It’s a debate that’s been had time and time again, but now there’s a new name to add to the list of all-time greatest athletes, U.S. super swimmer Michael Phelps.  I’ll count down from #10 to #1 my top ten athletes of all time…and no, I’m not going to count horses.

10.  John Elway– Elway may have been just as good of a baseball player as he was a football player.  While there are many who can play two sports, few choose the rigors of the NFL when another option is present.  Elway did and went on to play 16 seasons for the Denver Broncos, capping his career with consecutive Super Bowl victories! When is LIVE not really LIVE ???

12 08 2008

Since it’s after 4 a.m. on the East Coast and I’m listening to the Olympics run yet again from Beijing, it begs the question…”when is LIVE, not really LIVE”…???

So far in these summer games, NBC has benefitted greatly from the 12-hour time difference between the East Coast and China.  The network has been able to show dramatic moments LIVE from Beijing, such as Michael Phelps and his chase for Olympic immortality.

But, when is LIVE, not really LIVE…?  Well, in this case it’s right now at 4:20 a.m. as the network shows a replay of tonight’s prime time coverage.  The bug up in the corner reads LIVE, but we know that’s not true because we watched the China women’s olympic gymnasts beat our U.S. girls around 12:15 a.m. EST.

There you go.  That’s my first post EVER to a blog.  Let’s see if anyone reads it.

Indians OF Matt LaPorta might be giving up a spot on a major league roster this season for Olympic gold

So, it’s that time again, the Summer Olympics…or if you want to be official about it, The Games of the XXIX Olympiad.  This year’s version of the games features 10,500 athletes participating in 302 events across 28 sports.  However due to the crippling 12-hour time difference between Beijing and the United States, most internet surfing citizens of this great free land will know the outcome of these events long before they are ever seen on that wonderful network with the little peacock in the lower left-hand corner.

However, much to the delight of myself and many other internet sports geeks throughout the country, NBC has a new twist on this year’s version of the Olympics, live internet simulcasting of every Read the rest of this entry »
