Donovan McNabb Goes Unclaimed On Waivers

3 12 2011

Talk about a fall from grace.  Yesterday, former Philadelphia Eagles superstar quarterback, Donovan McNabb, went unclaimed by 31 NFL Donovan McNabb Celebrating in Philadelphia Eagles Jersey teams after requesting his release from the Minnesota Vikings.  Among the teams that chose to “stick with what they got”, are the Chicago Bears and Houston Texans.  Both teams are in the playoff hunt and starting backups due to injury.  In Houston, both Matt Schaub and Matt Leinart are out for the season and the Texans will now rely on TJ Yates, a rookie 5th round draft pick out of North Carolina.  In Chicago, Caleb Hanie is the new signal caller as Jay Cutler roams the sidelines with an injured thumb.  Hanie was signed by the Bears as an undrafted free agent out of out Colorado State in 2008.  Further worsening the blow for McNabb is that Chicago is his home town.  If these two teams didn’t want to give McNabb a shot, at this crucial juncture, than this may be the end of the line for the greatest quarterback in Philadelphia Eagles history.

The Texans need Schaub to stay on the field to make the playoffs

The Texans joined the NFL as a 2002 expansion team. They have never made the playoffs.  Could this be the year that end that drought?  “They are very close,” said Adam Wexler, from the Texans Radio Network, Sportsradio 610 in Houston.

Last season, the Texans achieved their best record ever at 8-8.  The feeling is that if quarterback Matt Schaub and wide receiver Andre Johnson could have stayed healthy they could have bettered their record.  Schub came over from the Falcons and in 11 games threw for 2,141 yards and nine touchdowns.  “They love the way he plays, said Wexler.  “But he just couldn’t stay on the field.  As for Johnson, the talented wide-out “looks pretty good so far,” according to Wexler.

But in 2007, Johnson missed seven starts due to injury. During his injury, the Texans went 2-7 without him. However, when he returned, he immediately revisited his Pro-Bowl numbers as he finished the season with 851 Read the rest of this entry »
