Vince Young Calls Philadelphia Eagles a Dream Team

When asked to describe the players that have been brought in and the group that is being assembled, Vince Young cracked a wide smile and simply responded: “Dream Team.”

“From Nnamdi [Asomugha] to [Dominique Rodgers-] Cromartie, to Jason [Babin] to myself,“ Young continued, “I know they are going to do some more things…It’s just beautiful to see where we’re trying to go.”

The desired destination, of course, is Indianapolis, to stake claim to the first Super Bowl championship in the team’s history. General manager Howie Roseman noted that the goal remains the same each season, but there is no mistaking the sense of immediacy surrounding the organization in this moment.

President Joe Banner spoke as part of a parade to the podium Saturday that included Babin, Young and Rodgers-Cromartie (Asomugha’s turn will likely come Sunday), and was asked about Young’s description of the team he was putting together.

“It’s a scary term,” said Banner, “ but…somebody wrote the words ‘The Eagles are all in,’ and that’s how we look at it. We’re doing anything and everything we can, we’re being aggressive about it, and the expectations are high.”

Along with the obvious talent, Banner believes he has gathered players “that really, really want to be here and really want to win. And they are not afraid of a goal as high as, we must win a Super Bowl to feel satisfied with the season.”

Asomugha’s agent indicated to Banner that Philadelphia was his client’s first choice with everything being equal. Young said that he wanted to work under Andy Reid. Babin and Rodgers-Cromartie talked about how excited they were to be a part of what is going on.

The attractiveness is part Reid, part Michael Vick, part reputation, and part self-fulfilling prophecy — the more stars you sign, the more desirable of a landing spot you become to other free agents.

One thing the Eagles cannot use as bait is Lombardi trophies — it is the tarnish on the polished metal. It is also what is driving this aggressive plan of attack.

“There’s a big focus on relieving the stress and pain of having been so close so many times and not winning it all,“ said Banner. “We’re very focused on getting that knot out of our stomachs.”
