Westbrook Surprised Eagles Wouldn’t Renegotiate

26 02 2010

Brian WestbrookI a recent interview with Dan Patrick, former Eagles star running back Brian Westbrook said “I was a little bit surprised. thinking they maybe would give me an opportunity to renegotiate things.”  “For [the Eagles], it’s always business, it’s always money,” Westbrook went on to say, also adding that he doesn’t know if winning or money is the biggest priority for the Eagles.  He does feel he left the team on good terms however.

Dan also asked if Michael Vick would be with another team next season. “Definitely,” Westbrook said. And when Patrick asked if Vick would be cut or traded. “Probably traded,” Westbrook said.

Larry Hughes Back To The Sixers?

24 02 2010

The Sacramento Kings have waived Larry Hughes who was acquired  just last week as part of the three-team deal involving the Houston Rockets and New York Knicks.  The Bobcat, coached by Hughes former coach Larry Brown, are rumored to be interested in Hughes services.  A return to the 76ers would be a logical fit as well, since Allen Iverson has once again left the team to be with his ailing daughter and is rumored to be released.

Playgirl Wants Michael Vick

22 02 2010

Michel VickPlaygirl magazine has offered to donate $1 million dollars to animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals if Michael Vick will pose nude for them in an upcoming edition of their magazine. The report comes from IMDB (which stands for International Movie Database and has nothing to do with full frontal male nudity…nor sports). Since serving his time in prison for operating a dog fighting ring, Vick has done everything in his power to rehab his image and it is unlikely that he would set it back by appearing nude in the publication. The donation to charity is a clever twist from Playgirl and the offer is sure to get some publicity regardless of the fact that Vick is sure to decline.

76ers Make Trade

18 02 2010

Jodie Meeks - Philadelphia 76ers

Jodi Meeks

Two league sources have told ESPN’s Chad Ford that the Milwaukee Bucks have agreed to a trade sending Jodie Meeks and Francisco Elson to the Philadelphia 76ers for Primoz Brezec, Royal Ivey and a second round pick. The contracts of Elson, Brezec and Ivey are all expiring.
Meeks is a rookie drafted out of Kentucky (2nd round #41 overall), whose contract has a another two years remaining. Though shooting just 36% in limited playing time this season for the Bucks (11 mpg), he is known as a shooter and will have every opportunity to prove himself with the 76ers. He became expendable when the Bucks acquired John Salmons from the Chicago Bulls yesterday.
Elson is currently out after hernia surgery in early February and may not play much for the rest of the season.

Report: Vick To Remain Eagle Until Preseason

18 02 2010

Michael VickNFL Network’s Jason La Canfora reports that the Eagles are likely to hold off on trading quarterback Michael Vick until the preseason. The Eagles may believe that they will be able to get greater value for Vick once teams are able to watch him perform in some exhibition games but Vick is due a $1.5M roster bonus on March 5 and for that reason, along with the fact they’d likely want to receive picks in this year’s draft, expect Vick to be moved prior to that time. This, in all likelihood, is simply more posturing on the Eagles part.

Eagles: Andrews Willing To Renegotiate

18 02 2010

Stacy AndrewsYesterday, we discussed the likelihood of Stacy Andrews being cut by the Philadelphia Eagles if he were unwilling to restructure his deal which was signed as a free agent just last offseason.  Today, Jeff McLane of Philly.com is reporting that Andrews will indeed be willing to renegotiate.  Says Andrews, “”I would do a minor restructuring of my contract,” Andrews said last night by telephone. The Eagles “want to do an adjustment and we’re willing. Hopefully, we can come to an agreement.”  Andrews says he would be willing to alter the annual salary but “wouldn’t mess with the roster bonus.”  Andrews went on to say, “I’m a franchise tackle and will be a franchise guard,” Andrews said.  We’ll see.
