Eagles Trade For Pro Bowler!

The Philadelphia Eagles have acquired Pro Bowl left tackle Jason Peters from the Buffalo Bills for the 28th overall pick in next week’s draft as well as a second day pick in 09′ and a late round selection in the 2010 draft. The news was first reported by FOXsports.com’s Jay Glazer.

Just yesterday, the Eagles had hosted Baylor offensive tackle Jason Smith, one of the top-rated players in the draft. The Eagles were believed to be the only serious suitorsfor Peters’ services (say that then times fast) and bringing in Smith might have been a shrewd move by the Eagles brass to get the Bills to accept the Eagles’ most recent offer.

Peters is just 27 years old and, unhappy with his current contract, held out for the start of the 2008 season.
He has been a Pro Bowler in each of the past two seasons.

This is obviously a huge move for the Birds who have now solidified an offensive line that lost both starting tackles, Jon Runyan and Tra Thomas. The Eagles still hold the #21 pick in this year’s draft and still have glaring needs at TE and RB. They could still use a primary receiver as well, but this move may now preclude them from a trade for Arizona Cardinals wideout Anquan Boldin. The team still has ten picks in next weeks draft and in all likelihood is not through dealing.

AWESOME MOVE FOR THE BIRDS. WITH THE LINE SHORED UP WE CAN NOW GRAB A RB WITH PICK 21 OR PETTIGREW IF HE’S STILL ON THE BOARD. DEFINATELY AGREE THAT THIS ISN’T THEIR LAST MOVE. NO WAY WE USE ALL TEN PICKS. HOPEFULLY ANOTHER TRADE IS IN THE WORKS, THIS ONE FOR AN ESTABLISHED PLAYMAKER LIKE BOLDIN OR TONY G.

Nice part here is that Peters isn’t exclusively a pass blocker, he’s been a big part of Buffalo’s success rushing the ball. If the team does go out and get a rb with that 1st round pick to team with Westbrook, we should now have a pretty dominant run game.

Kiper and McShay seem to agree that either Moreno or Wells will be on the board at #21. The interesting part here is that now that the Bills have traded Peters, they will probably have to use the #11 pick to draft a tackle meaning Pettigrew should now fall to us!

I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Birds snag Pettigrew at #21 and then package a couple of later picks with their 2nd round pick to move up in the 2nd round to grab Connecticut RB Donald Brown.
