Breaking News: Sixers, Cheeks agree on Contract Extension

The 76ers and head coach Maurice Cheeks agreed today in principle to a contract extension, his second extension in the last 6 months. Terms of the deal are unavailable as of right now, but it is also believed Cheeks has received a raise from his current pay for his performance in pulling the 76ers together after the Allen Iverson trade and guiding the team to a berth in the playoffs this past season for the first time since the 2005-2006 season. “The process was very positive,” Cheeks’ agent Lonnie Cooper told the Philadelphia Daily News earlier today. “Mo is very much looking to build on his long-term relationship with the team,” he added. The 76ers open play this year with arguably their most talented team under Mo Cheeks with the free agent addition of Elton Brand to go along with a young core that reached post-season play last year. General Manager Ed Stefanski, in addition to the Brand signing and Cheeks extension, added Royal Ivey, Donyell Marshall, Theo Ratliff, and Kareem Rush this off-season to add veteran depth and leadership.
